In the video above, Sunset View Elementary school social worker, Mr. Bringhurst, explains how stress works.

“If students are able to understand stress and how it works, they can more easily counteract negative feelings,” said Bringhurst.

“When we feel threatened, or perceive danger, our brain triggers our body into fight, flight or freeze mode.” Sometimes we may not be in real danger, but our brain can make it feel that way,” explains Bringhurst. “Many times your body calms naturally, but if not, you can use coping skills to de-stress.”

“If you aren’t sure what works, that’s ok. Most people need to test or try out what works for them. Some like to color, others like to walk. Find what works for you and practice it as often as you need to.”
