In the spirit of implementing Utah SEEd Standards into classrooms teachers from many Provo City School District elementary schools had a conference were they learned about computer coding, engineering and how to better use three dimensional science.

SEEd Standards is a new initiative, across Utah, to help create a more applicable science curriculum in elementary schools. According to SEEd proposes “Students should be active learners who demonstrate their scientific understanding by using it. It is not enough for students to read about science; they must participate in the three dimensions of science.” Three dimensional science involves combing science and engineering, crosscutting concepts and understanding disciplinary core ideas. To help better understand theses new standards teachers were split up into their respective grade levels and given a problem solving and design activity that showed how applicable science can be taught at every age. Teachers were also given training by for help with future coding curriculums.

This was just the first of many trainings that will be given throughout the next school year.
