The Provo City School District counselors use a four-pronged approach that helps our students graduate with high school with the skills, knowledge, and vision essential for college, career, and life readiness.
Currently, there are 21 School Counselors in PCSD. This has dramatically increased the number of school counselors in the District in order to lower the Counselor to Student ratios.

Plan for College and Career Readiness
School Counselors have individual and group meetings with all students at every grade level and use an electronic CCR Plan on PowerSchool to help students establish career goals and create 4 Year Plans. The student engages in next step planning, monitoring, and managing his or her goals toward college and career readiness with guided support from the school counselor and parent.
Collaborative Classroom Instruction
This provides students with opportunities to acquire knowledge, attitudes, and skills in four areas of development: Academic & Learning, Life & Career, Multicultural & Global Citizenship, and Social & Emotional Development. In systemic practice, school counselors support teachers with the distribution of knowledge and skills in areas where counseling expertise can enhance student academic learning and personal development.
Systemic Approach to Dropout Prevention with Social-Emotional Supports
This system of responsive services used by school counselors to promote student engagement, which is vital to dropout prevention. School Counselors offer a range of services along the continuum which include Collaboration, Individual and Small Group Counseling, Referral Resources, and Crisis Counseling.
Systemic Program Management
This tool manages activities that establish, maintain, and enhance the total school counseling program. School counselors use their leadership and advocacy skills to promote systemic change by contributing their valuable counselor time to professional development, data analysis, technology use, outreach, fair share responsibilities, management activities, and professional learning communities.
Thanks to this model, our students are able to feel empowered with the resources so they are better equipped for the future.
