Ways We Communicate

The Provo City School District believes positive home/school relations are critical to the support and success of our schools. It is our hope that improved communications with the community will further strengthen that relationship. The PR/Communications Department utilizes a variety of tools to communicate directly with students and parents, community partners and other key stakeholders to ensure our messages are clear and our audiences are up-to-date on all district affairs.

BlackBoard

When important and timely notifications must go out, PCSD contacts families by phone, email and text message using a system called BlackBoard, which is one of the most widely used communications tools for PreK-12 districts. Your school will also use BlackBoard in order to let you know about emergency situations, remind you about school events, update you on your child’s attendance and more.

We use the contact information you provide for us when utilizing our online registration system in PowerSchool. It is important to update your contact information through the Parent Portal Account in PowerSchool in order to receive ParentLink notifications. To create a Parent Account, please contact one of your children’s School Registrars. They can help you create the parent account and attach your children to it. PCSD and BlackBoard do not share any of your information, and we follow federal regulations on student and user privacy.

PowerSchool

PowerSchool is the Provo City School District’s electronic student management system where student information is collected and stored. The Portal is the “doorway” into the system—giving parents access to information about their children. The PowerSchool Parent Portal gives parents and students access to real-time information that may include attendance, grades, lunch balances, detailed assignment descriptions and school bulletins. Here, everyone stays connected! Students can gain access to assignments, parents can view their child’s progress, and teachers can communicate and share information with parents, students.

Web Sites

The district and school websites are used to communicate our news, announcements and events. You can expect several stories to be published each week, so check our website often! You can also find key contact information, key school demographics and statistics, school calendars and general school information for current and prospective parents. The district site also includes information about the Board of Education, policies, and department information for staff, parents, students, and the community.

Social Media

The Provo City School District, along with its schools, has a variety of social networks and media sites including: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Each school in PCSD has a content manager (social media specialist), who works directly with the Coordinator of Communications and Public Relations to develop, coordinate, implement and review social media at their school. Find your school’s social media accounts and follow them for all the latest, up-to-date information and fun events.

Monthly Newsletter

The Provo Preview is our monthly newsletter.  This is an online newsletter that is produced and distributed by Provo City School District. In general, the newsletter covers programs, happenings, and issues affecting our neighborhood schools, the district, and public education. Articles are posted frequently and a condensed, digestible, version is emailed quarterly to everyone within our BlackBoard directory.

Summer Registration Newsletter

Provo City School District mails out a hard copy of the Summer Registration Newsletter every July to each residence in Provo. This newsletter contains important registration information for the upcoming school year along with business updates, building and maintenance updates and other department communications.

Peachjar

The Provo City School District uses Peachjar to create and distribute electronic flyers. Peachjar sends District- or school-approved e-flyers directly to parents’ inboxes and posts them online to each school’s website. Here, parents can easily view them and immediately sign up for activities and events.

To view school-approved e-flyers, simply click the Peachjar button on the school’s website. Parents do not need to login to receive or view school flyers and they may opt-out of e-flyer communications. Parents may also manage their delivery preferences through Peachjar.
