Policy 7110 Citizen Advisory Committees and Task Forces
The Provo City School District Board of Education and the superintendent of the district may collaboratively choose to organize and appoint citizen advisory committees or task forces to study and make recommendation on issues related to the district and the community. When necessary, such groups will gather input from and establish interaction with the community regarding specific issues as defined by the board and superintendent. The committee(s) will study district, educational, and/or other topics about which the board and superintendent wish to gain a broader view. Before or during the first meeting, the committee will be provided guidance outlining its collective task(s) and authority, including a description of responsibilities and reporting guidelines. Authorization will also specify the duration of the committee’s existence.
The committee(s) will also receive information about the method(s) by which its findings/recommendations will be reported to the school board and the superintendent.
Board- Superintendent-directed citizen advisory committees and task forces are different from committees formed by the superintendent or other administrators intended to help guide district operations:
- An example of a Board- Superintendent-directed citizen advisory committee/task force is the Facilities Advisory Committee.
- An example of a committee formed by the superintendent or other administrators intended to help guide district operations is the Math committee.
The board directs the superintendent to develop procedures/guidelines to govern the formation of Board- Superintendent-directed committees and task forces.
