As part of the Safety and Security program, we’re pulling the curtains back on school operations to demonstrate how schools keep students safe, thriving, and cared for. And few do more to care for our students than our Social Workers.
We’ve spoken to Logan Telford and Mary Alisa about their day-to-day work and how families can receive aid. Toward the end of November, we followed a few of our Social Workers and Counselors as they organized Thanksgiving baskets for families in need at their schools– all after working hours.
Social Workers gathered under cloudy skies and chilly weather to drive to Tabitha’s Way Local Food Pantry and load a trailer with goods.
They then returned to Independence High School’s cafeteria after school hours to organize dozens of Thanksgiving Baskets.
Social Workers from around the district then collected their baskets from Independence to deliver to families before Thanksgiving. Some Social Workers also collected baskets from Sara Staker’s family and community donations.
Social Worker’s coordinated aid doesn’t end on Thanksgiving. We want to thank our Social Workers who work tirelessly to ensure care for all our students and remind families that your school’s Social Worker is available to help you and your students succeed.
