Earlier this month, Timpanogos parents headed back to elementary school as they were invited to attend school with their child.

This was all part of a school-wide parent engagement focus. Each grade level was asked to host one parent-engagement activity that would bring parents into the classroom during the day. One of Timpanogos third grade classes focused their activity on writing, while others focused their activities on other other subjects such as reading, math or science.

In the third grade class, the parents and students brainstormed ideas for their writing, wrote a paragraph together and then the parents checked their child’s work. At the end of the activity, every student received a notebook with a writing checklist and prompts to help them start writing at home.

Through this activity, parents were able to work with their child on core concepts that the student learned in class. The parents were able to learn what their child was learning and were also given practical ways that they could support learning in their individual homes.

All in all, this was a successful activity that allowed parents to immerse themselves in their child’s education while also learning ways that they could successfully continue this education in their own homes.
