Policy No. 7210 Regulation of Dangerous Weapons on School Grounds (Guests)
The Provo City School District Board of Education adheres to all state laws and guidelines pertaining to the possession of dangerous weapons on school premises. In accordance to state code, the possession of a dangerous weapon, firearm or short-barreled shotgun on or about school premises is strictly prohibited.
The following person may carry firearms on or about school premises as necessary:
- A United States marshal;
- A federal office required to carry a firearm;
- A peace officer of this or any other jurisdiction;
- A judge as defined and qualified in Utah Code 53.5.711
- A common carrier while engaged in the regular and ordinary transport of firearms as merchandise;
- A non-resident traveling in or through the state so long as the firearm is unloaded and securely encased
- Persons with concealed weapons permit issued in accordance with Utah Code 53.5.704;
- . Persons with a temporary concealed weapons permit issued in accordance with Utah Code 53.5.705;
- Persons approved by the responsible school administrator;
- Persons involved in lawful and approved activity so long as the item is under the control of the person responsible for its possession or use or the possession is:
- At the person’s place of residence or on the person’s property; or
- In any vehicle lawfully under the person’s control provided that the vehicle is not school owned or used by the school for students transport.
Students shall never be in possession of a dangerous weapon of any kind, at any time, on any school premises or event. Possession of dangerous weapons by students is governed by Policy/Procedure 3310 Safe Schools. Possession of dangerous weapons by staff is governed by Policy 5720 Concealed Weapons on School Grounds.
The district reserves the right to prohibit access to school grounds by anyone in violation of this policy. As well, any known or suspected violations of this policy will be promptly reported to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
