Rachel McClosky (now Henriksen), a former Provo High School student, is opening a solo exhibition at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art.

The exhibition will be opening this Friday, November 1st and there will be an opening reception with light refreshments. The exhibition is titled “Knew/New” and is based around the multicultural approach, aesthetics, and ideas of the 1970’s pattern and decoration movement.

The description on the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art website states, “Henriksen’s work builds visual narratives that grow from an engagement with patterns from a range of sources and experiences. Patterns intersect and overlap with the fluid, organic shapes referencing nature and the human form, acting as access points to alternate realities. The work establishes systems and hierarchies, which are then ruptured and interrupted to generate new forms for navigating visual experience”.

Congratulations to Rachel and we wish her luck with her upcoming solo exhibition opening! For those wanting to attend, the UMOCA is located on 20 S. West Temple in Salt Lake City, just west of the City Creek Mall and adjacent to Abravanel Hall. The exhibition will be open until January 18, 2020.
