Policy No. 3165 Age At Entrance

Based on state law, the District may enroll children in school who are at least five years old before September 2 of the year in which admission is sought.

A valid birth certificate must be submitted to the school where admission is sought to verify age.

The only exception to the kindergarten requirements listed above are for children of active duty military parent(s)/guardian(s) who may have started school in a state with earlier entrance requirements- exception is based on the 2010 Interstate Military Compact.

A child may be placed in the first grade even though the child did not meet the entry day for kindergarten the previous year if a full year of kindergarten was completed in another state or private school, provided there is convincing evidence that the child has the skills necessary to succeed in first grade.
