Our very own Chelsey Beck, a computer science teacher at Provo High School, was recently featured in UVUMagazine. Beck earned both her undergraduate and masters degree at Utah Valley University (UVU), where she learned skills and lessons she now uses with her own students. One of the lessons greatly reflecting UVU’s mission of educating students through engaged learning experiences. Beck aims to integrate technology in her classroom, providing a unique and educational experience for her students.
Her strong interest in computers began in high school, and later became her passion. She works to continue building a stronger computer science/IT culture for all students, by showing them computer science is more than just sitting in front of a screen and typing code.
“I understand not all students will become a computer scientist, but I truly believe programming is a key foundation to teach students the skills they will need to succeed in the 21st century world,” says Beck.
However, she is more impressed by her students. She shared, “Seeing my students, with similar backgrounds to my own, running down the hall to come play with robots or deciding to pursue a career in STEM is inspiring.”
Her experiences, education, and passion have shaped her to be one of the best. We are lucky to have her as one of our teachers!
