“Joan is what Gordon Ramsay is to an aspiring chef, what Elon Musk is to an aspiring inventor, and what Muhammad Ali is to an aspiring boxer—absolutely legendary,” shared Allison Christine Bartholomew, one of Joan Christiansen’s two nominators.
These glowing words describe Nurse Joan Christiansen, who was recently honored with the Provo Way Award.
Joan’s dedication to her role goes beyond simply providing medical care; she is a steadfast advocate for students and staff alike. Whether relocating supplies after a flood, serving on school safety teams, or calming students in crisis, Joan demonstrates unmatched patience, professionalism, and compassion.
“She can take any kid, even one in the throes of a panic attack, and—like magic—calm them down and make them feel safe and loved,” shared Allison. “She is incredibly thorough and effective, whether she’s completing paperwork or ensuring immunizations are up to date.”
Joan’s service extends to three schools, where her expertise and warmth have made her an invaluable resource for her communities.
Congratulations, Joan, and thank you for the remarkable impact you’ve made in the Provo City School District!
