Every year, the Provo City School District recognizes a, “Teacher of the Year” from each of our schools. This year – a school year characterized by unprecedented challenges caused by the pandemic – we are so proud to honor each of our educators who have demonstrated their commitment to our students and families by going above and beyond to keep their students learning every day.

We applaud our teachers for continuously investing in the well-being of our students while caring about their future and happiness beyond the classroom.

2021 Provo City School District Teachers of the Year:

Amelia Earhart

Gaile Sheffer

Gaile is 100% committed to teaching. She works hard in both preparation and instruction. She will put in whatever amount of time it takes to help meet the needs of her students. She is a great collaborator, and loves to share and receive ideas from her teammates.


Canyon Crest Elementary

Peggy Mcleod

Peggy has a unique gift with children. She loves each child and, even with the most challenging of students, has a desire for each little student to succeed. Mrs. McLeod models a love of learning for both her students and herself. She demonstrates this belief as she tackles new programs and technology in her classroom, bringing on new skills even late in her career.


Centennial Middle School

Julia Shreeve

Julia is a phenomenal educator. Her classroom is centered on high expectations for student conduct and achievement. Her relationship with her students is one of mutual respect, and she pushes her students to excel. She is also extremely kind and patient with them, taking time to work individually with students who are struggling.


Dixon Middle School

Carol Gaylord

Carol genuinely concerns herself with the well-being of each individual student. She is amazing with all students but truly has a gift in connecting with our most needy students, particularly those with difficult backgrounds, special needs or autism. Her efforts in this area have produced truly amazing success and will have a lasting impact on the lives of the students and families that she has worked with.


Edgemont Elementary School

Jeneal Stoddard

Jeneal builds a relationship with each of her students and when you enter her room you can feel the trust her students have in her as their teacher. She is warm with her students, but at the same time holds them to high expectations. She understands what students can achieve and helps students to see themselves with a growth mindset.


Franklin Elementary School

Mahauni Fuller

One of Mahauni’s greatest strengths is her ability to work with special needs students from diverse and low socio-economic backgrounds. Her love and concern for her students is shown in the time and effort that she puts in to meeting all of their individual needs…Mahauni always, and I mean always, is an advocate for those who often don’t have the support they deserve and need.


Independence High School

David Miller

David is a wonder to see in the classroom. His patience and dedication with at-risk students are inspirational…David is consistently willing to share his ideas and volunteer for assignments to make the school a better place for students and for his peers. He is a model teacher and a model friend who encourages us all to be better.


Lakeview Elementary School

Doug Arney

One of Mr. Arney’s strengths is working with students that might be having personal or behavior problems. He is willing to reach out to parents and find what he can do to support the student and family. He knows how to make it fun for the kids while still ensuring they are learning what they need. He makes Lakeview a great place!


Provo High School

Julie Hoffman

Julie truly cares for her students and supports them however possible. She takes the time to get to know them and be on their level. She even becomes familiar with current terminology, so she can occasionally throw words like “YEET!” into a lesson. Her students adore her for it. They also respect her, knowing her to be fair but firm in her expectations.


Provo Peaks Elementary School

Trisha Stokes

Trisha loves her students. She has developed positive relationships with them, and they know that she really cares for them. It is fun to see her students march down the hallway to the lunchroom saluting others as they pass by. Trisha has created such a positive learning climate in her classroom.


Provost Elementary School

Elise Clifford

Elise creates an energy and vigor for learning that is contagious to her students and co-workers. Mrs. Clifford is an advocate for student learning and is able to share her passion, commitment, and beliefs in a positive and persuasive manner with those around her. It is obvious the care, time, and thoughtfulness she puts into working with each individual student as well as her lessons. She truly understands the components of good teaching and applies them in her classroom on a regular basis.


Rock Canyon Elementary School

Danielle Fueger

Danielle is an outstanding professional teacher. The classroom climate and environment are very warm and inviting for all students. She always keeps her cool when things might get somewhat challenging. Danielle is a real credit to our profession, a model teacher. She is well liked and respected by her cohorts, staff and our community.


Spring Creek Elementary School

Audrey West

Audrey is a learner. She participates in professional development by listening carefully, thinking about what it should look like in her classroom, planning lessons that incorporate the effective strategies that were presented, and then determining if the instruction was effective or not. She is also willing to share her work with her colleagues. Learning should be fun and Audrey plans learning activities that are interesting to her students.


Sunset View Elementary School

Sarah Combs

Sarah’s knowledge and expertise are unmatched! She has been key in training staff on best practices when dealing with challenging students. Sarah is well prepared with engaging lessons and authentic activities for her 6th grade students. You can feel the love she has for her students when you enter her classroom. Sarah is a fantastic educator and we are so lucky she works at Sunset View Elementary.


Timpanogos Elementary School

Elizabeth Kessler

Liz loves her students and helps them with every aspect of their lives. She personalizes their learning, not only to their level, but also to their interests. Liz helps her students with social/emotional needs, making sure there is emotional safety in her classroom. Students are free to be themselves and student differences are celebrated. Liz is constantly thinking of others. She is so valued at Timpanogos.


Timpview High School

Denise Abbott

Denise understands the importance of making a personal connection with each of her students. She knows every student well and her students know that she loves them, personally and individually. They strive to be their best, because they sense, feel, and internalize the greatness that she sees in them. She is a champion of learning, and absolute advocate of young people.


Wasatch Elementary School

Xiaoqian Xu

Xiaoqian is a wonderful person and teacher. She has a very cheerful disposition and is always smiling. Xiaoqian loves sharing her classroom strategies with new teachers. She has positive relationships with her students, their parents, and her colleagues. Xiaoqian is a very important member of our Wasatch team.


Westridge Elementary School

Sam Clement

Sam is an incredible Special Education teacher. Sam listens to parents concerns and finds ways to incorporate their suggestions into the IEP. Sam can create behavior plans that address specific behavior issues and incorporate strategies to change students negative behaviors. Sam is always willing to provide extra support for students so they can access the General Education curriculum.

Cada año, el Distrito Escolar de la Ciudad de Provo reconoce a un, “Maestro del Año” de cada una de nuestras escuelas. Este año – un año escolar caracterizado sobre todo por los desafíos sin precedentes causados por la pandemia – estamos muy orgullosos de honrar a cada uno de nuestros educadores que han demostrado su compromiso con nuestros estudiantes y familias haciendo todo lo posible para que sus estudiantes aprendan cada día.

Gaile está 100% comprometida a la enseñanza. Trabaja duro tanto en la preparación como en la instrucción. Peggy Mcleod

Peggy tiene un don especial como maestra de niños. Ella ama a cada niño y, incluso con los estudiantes más desafiantes, tiene el deseo de que cada pequeño estudiante tenga éxito. La Sra. McLeod es un modelo de amor por el aprendizaje tanto para sus alumnos y ella misma. Centennial Middle School

Julia Shreeve

Dixon Middle School

Carol Gaylord

Carol se preocupa sinceramente por el bienestar de cada alumno. Es increíble con todos los estudiantes, pero realmente tiene un don para conectar con nuestros estudiantes con más necesidades, en particular los que tienen situaciones difíciles, necesidades especiales o autismo. Su esfuerzo en esta área ha producido un éxito realmente sorprendente y tendrá un impacto duradero en las vidas de los estudiantes y las familias con las que ha trabajado.


Edgemont Elementary School

Jeneal Stoddard

Jeneal establece una relación con cada uno de sus alumnos y cuando entras en su clase se puede sentir la confianza que sus alumnos tienen en ella como profesora. Ella es amable con sus estudiantes, pero al mismo tiempo los mantiene con altas expectativas. Ella entiende lo que los estudiantes pueden lograr y ayuda a los estudiantes a verse a sí mismos con una mentalidad de crecimiento.


Franklin Elementary School

Mahauni Fuller

Uno de los mayores puntos fuertes de Mahauni es su capacidad para trabajar con alumnos con necesidades especiales procedentes de entornos socioeconómicos diversos y bajos. Su amor y preocupación por sus estudiantes se muestra en el tiempo y el esfuerzo que pone para satisfacer todas sus necesidades individuales … Mahauni siempre, y en serio, siempre, es una defensora de los que a veces no tienen el apoyo que merecen y necesitan.


Independence High School

David Miller

David es una maravilla para ver en la clase. Su paciencia y dedicación con los estudiantes de riesgo es una inspiración… David siempre está dispuesto a compartir sus ideas y a ofrecerse como voluntario para hacer que la escuela sea un lugar mejor para los estudiantes y para sus compañeros. Es un profesor modelo y un amigo modelo que nos anima a todos a ser mejor.


Lakeview Elementary School

Doug Arney

Uno de los aspectos más fuertes del Sr. Arney es su trabajo con los estudiantes que tienen problemas personales o de comportamiento. Él siempre está dispuesto a contactar con los padres y encontrar lo que se puede hacer para apoyar al estudiante y a la familia. Él sabe cómo hacer que los niños se diviertan mientras se asegura de que están aprendiendo lo que necesitan. ¡Él hace Lakeview un gran lugar!


Provo High School

Julie Hoffman

Julie se preocupa por sus estudiantes y los apoya en todo lo que puede. Se toma el tiempo necesario para conocerlos y estar a su nivel. Incluso se familiariza con la terminología de moda, por lo que de vez en cuando puede lanzar palabras como “¡YEET!” en una lección. Sus alumnos la adoran por eso. Trisha Stokes

Trisha adora a sus alumnos. Ha establecido buenas conexiones con ellos, y ellos saben que se preocupa por ellos. Es divertido ver a sus alumnos marchar por el pasillo hacia la cafetería saludando a los demás al pasar. Trisha ha creado un ambiente de aprendizaje muy positivo en su clase.


Provost Elementary School

Elise Clifford

Elise transmite una energía y un vigor por el aprendizaje que es contagioso a sus alumnos y compañeros de trabajo. La Sra. Clifford es una promotora del aprendizaje de los estudiantes y es una persona que comparte su pasión, su compromiso y sus creencias de manera positiva y persuasiva con los que la acompañan. El cuidado, el tiempo y la atención que pone en el trabajo con cada estudiante individual, así como sus lecciones, son obvios. Ella realmente entiende los factores de una buena enseñanza y los aplica en su clase de forma regular.


Rock Canyon Elementary School

Danielle Fueger

Danielle es una profesora muy excepcional y profesional. El ambiente de la clase es muy amigable y amable para todos los estudiantes. Siempre mantiene la calma cuando las cosas se ponen un poco difíciles. Danielle es una verdadera joya para nuestra profesión, una profesora modelo. Es muy querida y respetada por sus compañeros, el personal y nuestra comunidad.


Spring Creek Elementary School

Audrey West

Audrey siempre está abierta a aprender. Participa en el desarrollo profesional escuchando atentamente, pensando en cómo debería ser en su clase, planificando lecciones que incorporen las estrategias efectivas que se presentaron, y luego determinando si la instrucción fue efectiva o no. También está dispuesta a compartir su trabajo con sus colegas. El aprendizaje debe ser divertido y Audrey planifica actividades de aprendizaje que son interesantes para sus alumnos.


Sunset View Elementary School

Sarah Combs

Los conocimientos y la experiencia de Sarah son incomparables. Ella ha sido esencial en la formación del personal sobre las mejores prácticas cuando se trata de los estudiantes desafiantes. Sarah está bien preparada con lecciones atractivas y actividades auténticas para sus estudiantes de sexto grado. Se puede sentir el amor que tiene por sus estudiantes cuando uno entra a su clase. Timpanogos Elementary School

Elizabeth Kessler

Liz ama a sus alumnos y les ayuda en cualquier aspecto de su vida. Ella personaliza su aprendizaje, no sólo a su nivel, sino también a sus intereses. Liz ayuda a sus alumnos con las necesidades sociales/emocionales, asegurándose de que haya seguridad emocional en su clase. Los alumnos son libres de ser ellos mismos y se celebran sus diferencias. Liz siempre piensa en los demás. Es muy valorada en Timpanogos.


Timpview High School

Denise Abbott

Denise reconoce la importancia de establecer una conexión personal con cada uno de sus alumnos. Conoce bien a cada alumno y ellos saben que los quiere, individual y personalmente. Se esfuerzan por dar lo mejor de sí mismos, porque perciben, sienten y se interiorizan la grandeza que ella ve en ellos. Es una campeona del aprendizaje y una defensora absoluta de los jóvenes.


Wasatch Elementary School

Xiaoqian Xu

Xiaoqian es una persona y una profesora maravillosa. Tiene un carácter muy alegre y siempre está sonriendo. A Xiaoqian le encanta compartir sus estrategias de clase con los nuevos profesores. Tiene relaciones positivas con sus alumnos, sus padres y sus colegas. Xiaoqian es un miembro muy importante de nuestro equipo de Wasatch.

Sam Clement

Sam es un increíble profesor de Educación Especial. Sam escucha las preocupaciones de los padres y encuentra maneras de incorporar sus sugerencias en el IEP. Sam crea planes de comportamiento que atienden situaciones específicas de comportamiento y que incorporan estrategias para cambiar los comportamientos negativos de los estudiantes. Sam siempre está dispuesto a ofrecer apoyo adicional a los estudiantes para que puedan obtener acceso al plan de estudios de Educación General.
