The Provo City School District Board values student voices among its stakeholders. To enhance student representation, the board has selected two new students, Hutch Fale from Provo High and Monika Tua’one from Timpview, to serve as non-voting board members next school year.
This is the second year that the district has offered Student Board positions. We thank and celebrate last year’s student board members Max Joyner of Provo High School and William Weidner of Timpview High School, whose efforts representing students last year has led to a continued push to uphold student board member positions for the district.
Monika Tua’one, a dedicated Junior at Timpview High School, stands out for her commitment to academics, leadership, and community service.
Monika was actively involved in AVID, HOPE Squad, Student Government, and the People of Polynesia during the 2023-2024 school year. Monika’s outstanding academic record and involvement in essential service and community-based organizations highlight her ability to balance multiple responsibilities effectively– and, more importantly, a deep-dyed desire to do good for her community.
In addition to her academic and extracurricular involvement, Monika has demonstrated her organizational skills in her work within Student Government in a marketing campaign for Timpview High School’s Sub for Santa initiative. Using every communicable avenue, Monika increased student participation through posters, flyers, social media, and event planning. Monika is organized, intelligent, action-oriented– and capable of mobilizing her peers for a good cause.
Monika believes that having student board members is essential for providing diverse perspectives. Her extensive involvement in various clubs ensures she is well-connected and understands the needs of different student groups.
Her experience in leadership roles has prepared her to work effectively with both adults and peers. She is committed to serving her community and aims to give back through her position on the board.
For these qualities and many others, Principal Momi Tu’ua and other faculty members recommended Monika for the Student Board position, expressing their confidence in her leadership abilities.
Monika Tua’one is an excellent choice for the Student Board position. Her leadership, dedication, and commitment to service will bring valuable insights to the school board.
Hutch Fale, a standout Junior at Provo High School, exemplifies academic and athletic excellence.
Hutch’s dedication to his studies and sports is inspiring; he excelled in football and track in the 2023-2024 school year. This achievement is consistent across his academic record, where he has maintained straight As throughout high school.
Hutch’s success is deeply rooted in a firm familial influence. As one of five children, he looks up to his older siblings and follows the study habits instilled by his parents, who prioritize academics before athletics. His parents’ rule, ‘school comes first,’ has shaped his approach to balancing sports and academics.
His passion for teamwork extends beyond sports. Hutch loves the collaborative effort required in team sports and finds great rewards in achieving shared goals. This team-oriented mindset also drives his academic interests, particularly in science and engineering.
Hutch acknowledges the support from his teachers and peers, attributing much of his success to their encouragement. His teacher, Christian Hernandez, describes him as a respectful, honest young man who is well-composed and poised to be a strong leader in the coming year.
Hutch is committed to the well-being of others through service and is a well-rounded student demonstrating excellence in every field– it is why he received a nomination for the Student Board position.
