Provo City School District has a new notification system SchoolMessenger. This system will help you stay connected to your student’s school and the district.

SafeArrival, within the SchoolMessenger app, is an absence management system that improves student safety and makes it easy for you to let the school know about your child’s absence. 

Here are some key points to using the system: 

  1. Advanced Absences can be reported:
    • 24 hours/day
    • 7 days a week
    • For any school day in the school term
  2. This system cannot be used to excuse students early from school. 

    • If you need to check your student out early, please contact the school office.

  3. Absences may only be excused in the app until 11:45 p.m. on the day of absence. 

    • Any other absences must be excused by calling the school.

If you don’t report your child’s absence in advance, the automated notification system will try to contact you (using your “Primary Contact” email you created when registering your student through PowerSchool). This may include push notifications to the app, email, SMS text messages, or phone calls. You will be asked to provide the reason for your child’s absence.  You have until 11:45 p.m. the day of an absence to report.  You may do so using the phone line, website or mobile app.  You are asked to report your child’s absence in advance whenever possible.

 You can report an absence using one of these convenient methods:

SchoolMessenger app (free)

  1. Make sure you have completed your PowerSchool registration – The app pulls your “Primary Contact” email to sink you to your students.
    • It is important to note that your “Primary Contact” email field in PowerSchool will need to be the same for each child in order for this to work correctly.
  2. Get the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store or using the link below. 
  3. Tap Sign Up to create your account.
  4. Select Attendance from the menu, and then select Report an Absence.

Web and Mobile Web

  1. Make sure you have completed your PowerSchool annual registration – The app pulls your “Primary Contact” email to sink you to your students.
    • It is important to note that your “Primary Contact” email field in PowerSchool will need to be the same for each child in order for this to work correctly.
  2. Go to the website.
  3. Click Sign Up to create your account.
  4. Select Attendance from the menu, then select Report an Absence.

Interactive Toll-free Phone

  1. Call the toll-free, interactive telephone system at 1-888-257-8239.
  2. Follow the instructions to report an absence.
  3. Whenever an absence is reported or updated, you will receive a confirmation notice by email and/or text message (assuming you have provided that information in PowerSchool).

Frequently Asked Questions

I downloaded the App but only one of my students is showing up.  How do I correct this?

  • SchoolMessenger and SafeArrival use the “Primary Contact” info field in PowerSchool to contact parents. Please ensure that your email listed in the “Primary Contact” info section of PowerSchool is the same for all of your students AND is the email address used to create an account on the School Messenger App. You will want to login to PowerSchool and update your “Primary Contact” information to correct this issue.  If changes are made in PowerSchool it will take up to 24 hours to show the changes in SchoolMessenger and you will need to log out of the app and log back in, or go into the app, go to contact and click sync to update the program.

I needed to check my student out of school for an appointment and the front office didn’t know even though I used the app.  What went wrong?

  • The app cannot be used to excuse students early from school.  If you need to check you student out early, please contact the school office.
