Through the always-turbulent school year start, we celebrate those that form the unremitting soul of Provo City School District – teachers like Jayson Mansanarez, who empowers each student to find their path and supplies them with the means to reach their destination.
Jayson Mansanarez, a teacher at Provo High School last year, received the Provo Way award in May 2023. His devotion to an autonomous classroom environment earned him the Provo Way award, motivating students to achieve and inspiring educators around him.
To quote Innovative Learning Director, Suzy Cox:
“We are so proud of the work that he does to focus on his students, to help them be self-directed and make more choices for themselves in the classroom.”
Jayson’s nominator, the now-retired Innovative Learning Specialist Jim Davis, had commended Jayson for his student-first, communication-centered approach:
“I nominated Jayson for this because of the creative way he teaches English Language Arts. It’s all about communication. I watched what he was doing in his classroom to empower his students to pursue their passions and come up with their own methods to talk about what’s interesting to them– it’s pretty awesome to see.”
Jayson caught the eye of our entire Innovative Learning department and continues to capture his students’ attention and admiration.
Thank you so much for all you do for Provo, Jayson. We need teachers like you in our schools, for your students, but as an example for us, your peers. We are so grateful to start this school year with Jayson as our example, and we hope we can rise to the needs of our students like he does every day, week, month, and year.
