“She helps me with my assignments and hears about my complaints about some of my classes, which are hard,” says Provo High student Milan Venegas at Kaylee Smedley’s Provo Way Award. “But honestly, she is one of the best teachers ever.”
In September, the Provo City School District and Board of Education awarded five Provo Way awards. The Provo Way Award is an opportunity for the district to celebrate the positive things students, teachers, administrators, parents, and staff do for the community.
This week, we’d like to celebrate and congratulate Provo High Teacher Kaylee Smedley for receiving the Provo Way Award. Society expects great teachers to be part-time architects and part-time counselors all the time– from building structured units that account for state standards through cumulative, engaging experiences to providing support and resources, aiding help students navigate their academic, personal, and emotional journeys, it seems too much– yet Smedley manages it all with grace.
The fact that a student nominated their Smedley proves that she is emblematic of the Provo Way; she empowers students and creates safe spaces for everyone to succeed.
We congratulate her for receiving the Provo Way Award and thank her for consistently and conscientiously caring for the countless students each year.
Thank you, Kaylee, and congratulations.
