Provo High School’s ESports teams took home gold in Rocket League and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate in this year’s Ken Garff ESports regional tournament.
This achievement makes Provo High the first school team ever to earn two first-place titles in a single Ken Garff event.
The Ken Garff ESports regional tournament makes Provo High a premiere school to play Esports in Utah, a feat attracting the attention of UVU ESports recruiters. After the Ken Garff ESports tournament, UVU reached out to collaborate with Provo High and offer personalized coaching for Provo High players.
Provo High School is in a position to cultivate high performing ESports teams to nurture future collegiate players. UVU, for example, is currently recruiting Concurrent Enrollment Students to move directly into college, offering a training program and potential scholarships.
Their successes spell a story in the making of a profitable venture for scholarships and college placements in a growing sport– and this is just the iceberg.
Next year, we’ll tag alongside Provo High ESports teams as they work with UVU students to hone their skills, offer coverage of future events, and write about the development of a sport.
Keep an eye throughout January for an article with an ESports athlete interview and future articles, videos, and reels on ESports growth and scholarship opportunities and how students and staff can get involved in building up their teams.
