Provo City School District is excited to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of Provo High and Timpview’s eSports teams.
These talented student-athletes have showcased their exceptional skills and determination throughout the season, making their schools and community proud.
With their resounding victories and remarkable performances, they have firmly established Provo City School District as a hub for eSports talent in the southwest.
Timpview High School’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team emerged as the undisputed champions of the Mountain Region Championship for the spring 2023 season. The region witnessed the participation of 190 school teams from a vast area spanning Canada to Texas and Arizona. Timpview’s varsity team displayed unmatched prowess, going undefeated in the regular season and playoffs. In a thrilling finals matchup against another Utah’s Mountain Ridge High School, Timpview’s players showcased lightning-fast reflexes and skillful play, securing victory and claiming the title of Mountain Region Champions.
Congratulations to the talented Timpview players who excelled in the playoffs: Nick Jerezano, Wren Lewis, alternate Christian Hall, and team Captain Mekhi Little. Their unwavering dedication and teamwork propelled them to unprecedented heights, ensuring their place in eSports history.
Provo High’s eSports team, on the other hand, has achieved extraordinary success across multiple games. With varsity teams competing in Overwatch, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, League of Legends, Rocket League, and Mario Kart 8, they have demonstrated their versatility and skill in a wide array of titles.
The Provo High team has reached great heights this season, with every varsity team qualifying for the Mountain States Esports finals—an accomplishment that truly speaks to their talent and dedication.
Of particular note is Provo High’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team, which achieved an impressive top 4 placement in the Mountain States finals. Additionally, their Overwatch team secured a spot in the top 8, while three teams reached the grand stage of the Mountain States Finals, exhibiting remarkable skill and strategic prowess.
What sets Provo High apart is its distinction as the only school in the mountain states region to have multiple teams competing in the PlayVS Mountain States finals. This remarkable feat is a testament to the commitment and expertise of the students and coaching staff, who have worked tirelessly to hone their skills and achieve greatness. Provo City School District proudly commends the entire coaching staff for their invaluable guidance, which has played a pivotal role in the team’s resounding success.
Timpview and Provo High’s play in the Mountain States competition earned both teams spots in the 2023 Play VS Cup, an invitation-only event for elite eSports teams nationwide.
Provo High boasts national acclaim at the Play VS Cup, placing in the top 16 for Rocket League and Mario Kart.
Our team’s unrivaled skill and tenacious play has transformed Provo City School District into a veritable breeding ground of eSports talent. Independence High School and Centennial Middle are building their own eSports teams, expanding the talent pool, and fostering a competitive environment. With these advancements, Provo City School District is becoming the go-to destination in the southwest for eSports scholarships and careers.
