A big congratulations to Carrie Peterson who has won the Hilda B. Jones Special Educator of the Year Award!
This award is given to professionals who:
Carrie Peterson is wrapping up an amazing 34 year career as a special education teacher, leader and coordinator in Provo City School District. She continues to be a leader in working with educators, parents and administrators in ensuring that students with significant cognitive disabilities and autism take their rightful place among society. Her unique ability to help IEP teams develop and implement challenging outcomes for students with disabilities is powerful. She does this through her disposition, words, and actions. She collaborates with universities in preparing new special education teachers for the field and mentoring them to serve students with disabilities in meaningful ways. For over three decades, Carrie has insisted and provided consistent support for the purpose of the Individuals with disabilities education act: “each eligible child with a disability is entitled to a free appropriate public education (FAPE) that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet the child’s unique needs and that prepare the child for further education, employment, and independent living.” She has given distinguished service and is well deserving of this award.
Congrats Carrie! We have appreciated your time and dedication to our school district!
