Jan Jardine, Provo City School District’s Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator and CAPS Director, was honored with 2024 Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) National Lifetime Achievement Award during the ACTE Award Gala last November. It is a recognition well-deserved for her lifetime commitment to Career and Technical Education (CTE). Jan’s journey spans over 22 years, evolving from a dedicated business, marketing, and computer teacher to her current roles that epitomize innovation and dedication in the CTE landscape.
Jan’s statement on LinkedIn regarding her nomination reflects her gratitude for the opportunities ACTE has provided throughout her career– and is a valuable reflection of her “give more” mindset. To quote her statement:
“So often, people I talk with say they do not have time to get involved with a professional organization. My response is always the same: “I don’t think you have time not to!” Being actively engaged with this CTE community has made me a better professional and changed me for the better.”
Jan acknowledges the unwavering support of her family, including a supportive husband, eight children, and a sweet grandson, as well as the many students, teachers, parents, business partners, community members, and more that have shaped and impacted her career for the better. Her genuine appreciation for the people who have positively influenced her professional journey sets her apart as a successful leader; she is a creator of communities. She lifts those around her, leavens heavy and complex tasks, and constructs programs that change our student’s lives forever.
As Provo CAPS Director, Jan has successfully integrated students into a professional culture, allowing them to solve real-world problems. Her transition from teacher to Provo CAPS Director exemplifies her commitment to innovative educational approaches that immerse students in real-world experiences, while retaining the same lens from her time in the classroom.
Jan’s impact extends beyond her roles. It extends into the community, as she’s built bridges with local business partners to provide invaluable professional experiences for students.
The ACTE National Lifetime Achievement Award recognition validated facts our district already knew: Jan is an outstanding leader, innovator, and enduring figurehead for learning in our city. Her ability to drive student learning, remove barriers to work-based learning, and foster a culture of growth has made her a beacon of inspiration in our city.
Thank you, Jan, for all you do for our students, families, educators, and community partners, and congratulations on a well-earned achievement.
