Policy No. 4130 Alternative and Remedial Educational Programs
Purpose
The Provo City School District is dedicated to providing educational options for all students. It is recognized there will be students in the District whose needs and interests are best served by participation in an alternative education program. A variety of educational options will be provided to students and parents. All programs shall meet the requirements of federal and state law, teach the Utah Core Standards, and follow District policy and procedure. The creation of new optional and specialized programs may be initiated at the district level or individual school site, as long as the programs offer academic rigor, research-based instructional strategies, student-centered assessment, and evaluation of student achievement.
Admission
A student, upon a parent’s request, may be placed in an alternative education program if the district determines that the placement is necessary to meet the student’s educational needs and assists the student in achieving district and state academic standards. Every program shall offer equal access to all students.
