“Paris is an excellent educator. She goes above and beyond with everything she does,” said Sarah Jensen, fellow Timpanogos Elementary teacher and nominator. “She is constantly trying to improve her teaching, looking for new opportunities, and is always willing to collaborate.” Paris Belback, a 6th-grade teacher, received the Provo Way Award for an unyielding drive to support students and for leadership among colleagues.

“Paris also creates a positive and safe environment for our students. She understands that many of them are learning English as another language, and she provides them the tools to succeed while still holding them to a high standard,” Jensen added.

Visiting her classroom during a STEAM Lesson, Paris took time for students after studying an art piece to express their learning through journaling, in groups, as a class, informally, formally– for each learning style and level of mastery, for each student’s needs and interests. Belback had students reading, writing, analyzing, collaborating– and, no joke, cheering and laughing– all while working within the highest ELA skills and standards available for 6th-graders.

“I have had the privilege to be her dual partner for two years, and it has been one of the best experiences in education that I have ever had. Paris is the very definition of the Provo Way.”

We absolutely agree. Thank you, Paris, for making Provo a safe learning space for all our students.
