Timpview High School’s 2022 Veteran’s Day Assembly

On Thursday, November 10th, 2022, Timpview High School hosted its Veteran’s Day assembly to commemorate the service of Utah’s veterans.

After an introduction from Timpview student Claire Armond, Timpview’s Color Guard and Band presented each military branch’s flags, asking those who served to stand for their respective flag. Timpview Choir then sang the National Anthem, after which Miss Provo, Glory Thomas, led the Pledge of Allegiance. 

Following the introduction, Mayor Kaufusi offered a brief welcome from Provo City, leading to three musical performances from Timpview’s Choir and Ballroom. Then, a Timpview student, Bella, delivered her speech, leading to Keynote Speaker Steven Shallenberger’s address.

Bella spoke of her father and his service in the Green Beret, and her commemorative speech leading to the keynote encapsulated the spirit of gratitude present throughout the assembly.

Bella’s father earned his green beret in November 2003, serving in several locations, notably in Afghanistan during operation and freedom. 

“When he returned, he had severe PTSD. These appointments were hard on my dad. But he wanted to serve.”

He passed away in 2014 due to contracted illnesses in Afghanistan. 

“I lost my dad when I was six years old, but I think about him every day. My dad overcame a lot to serve in the special forces. He sacrificed time with his family to serve, but he was proud to serve. Today, I am pleased to honor my dad and the brave young men and women who served and continue serving our country today.”

After hearing from the Keynote Speaker Steven Shallenberger and the assembly’s conclusion, Timpview’s Student Government, Ballroom, Choir, Band, Latinos in Action, and Cheer groups worked alongside Freedom Festival, and Veterans Council to provide a luncheon for visiting veterans.
