“I am not the voice for people. I’ll provide the opportunity for others to come and express their voice.”
Just before the end of the school year, incoming Superintendent Wendy Dau visited several of our schools, where students, teachers, faculty, and parents had a chance to ask questions and learn more about her. We recorded these conversations and will share them for the next few months in the hopes you’ll get to know Wendy on a more personal level.
Wendy spoke with Timpview High Student Government Representative and District Communications Intern Sanjay Moorthy in this installment. Sanjay asked the Superintendent about her leadership style and what she believed the district’s most significant challenges were. To quote Wendy again:
“I am not the voice for people. I’ll provide the opportunity for others to come and express their voice.”
Wendy believes in a win-win mindset– she states she is a problem-solver and believes collaboration is the key to solving the big problems facing education.
Regarding our community’s challenges, Dau commented that education can always feel like a battle between instruction for the one versus managing the expectations of the many. Her goal is to make instruction as tailored as possible and communicate the many wonderful ways the district already tailors instruction to fit the needs of each child.
