Mckay Jensen Elected to the Utah School Boards Association

Congratulations to our Board President, McKay Jensen, for being elected as the Vice President of the Utah School Boards Association. Each year, at the Utah School Boards Association convention in January, someone is elected to a four-year term in USBA leadership. Jensen will serve the first year as Vice-President, the second year as President Elect, the third year as President and the fourth year as Past President. This position has no effect on his current role as a member of the Provo City School District Board of Education.

The welfare of students and their education are of fundamental importance to school districts in the state, the USBA and Jensen.

“I find it endlessly energizing and engaging to be actively working for a bright future or our students, families and communities,” states Jensen. “There is nothing that has greater impact on our communities than the quality and efficiency of our education system.”

Jensen loves the quote from Robert F. Kennedy, which says, “The future is not a gift, it is an achievement.” He believes the Provo Board of Education works every day to achieve the future and functions at a high level of professionalism.

Over the past two years, Jensen has been on the USBA board of directors and served as the chair of the Evaluation Committee, which develops resources for board self evaluation, superintendent evaluation, and business administrator evaluation.

In 1932, local school board members recognized the need for a concerted voice on behalf of children, parents and board members. Because of this, the USBA was organized and founded. In 1959, the state legislature passed an act permitting local school boards to join and fund the USBA; thus, recognizing the USBA as a statewide-organized association.

USBA represents all 41 Utah school districts and the State Board of Education.
