As part of KUTV’s Eye on Your Money Food Drive, KUTV is partnering with our district to send viewers and their donations to families across Utah. During their Monday night segment, Interviewers spoke to Timpanogos Elementary Principal Carrie Rawlins and Timpanogos Elementary Social Worker Marsha Baird to demonstrate how essential donated goods are to the success and well-being of students in need.

“When you think of Provo, Utah, you think of middle-class people. They don’t know that people here, in the heart of the city, are in need,” Rawlins said.

Baird spoke to the difficulties that families face in a growing city.

“We have families doubling and tripling up in homes because they can’t afford housing. I know that some of our kids are going through hard things at home, yet they’re still coming every day.”

Rawlins concluded that the success of Provo students depends on everyone, including the donations delivered in Food Drives like the KUTV Holiday Food Drive.

Rawlins said that districts provide funding for food and clothing, but there is a limit, noting that community donations play a significant role in caring for our students.

“Unless student needs are met– unless they eat and sleep– they can’t learn.”

The Food Drive is on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 3:30 – 6:30 PM, in Centennial Middle School’s East parking lot at 305 East 2320 North, Provo, UT 84604.
