Isabelle Kaul, an eighth grader at Dixon Middle School, is currently competing in the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
This annual spelling bee, which started in 1925, is taking place at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland this year. The preliminaries are currently happening and the final round will be on May 31.
In order to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, Isabelle was declared a champion of a local spelling bee and then had to submit an application for participation, which had to receive final approval by the Scripps National Spelling Bee organization.
Isabelle will compete against many other students from around the United States. However, even if she does not place in this competition, all participants are awarded a one year subscription to Merriam-Webster online, receive the Samuel Lewis Sugarman Award and are given a one year membership to Britannica online premium.
Congratulations to Isabelle! We wish her good luck as she competes in the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
