Independence Students Cross Provo River

Last week, Independence students completed their annual crossing of the Provo River by hanging from a rope tied between two trees.

The river crossing activity involved Junior ROTC members crossing a 60 foot expanse of the Provo River through using a rope and carabineer clip.

This annual event is just one of many that helps Independence High School JROTC students learn how to become good leaders and have good communication skills. The JROTC program implemented at the school helps students learn Army values such as loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.

Although some students were nervous about crossing the river at first, they quickly overcame their fear through the support of their teachers and peers. Congratulations to these students for their great demonstration of perseverance and bravery.
