Stephanie Merris is a first grade teacher at Sunset View Elementary. She was chosen as the Daily Herald’s Utah Valley Educator of the Week.
Merris has been praised by many of her co-workers for being an energetic, positive and engaging educator. She goes above and beyond for her students by incorporating humor and music into her lessons. She loves to laugh. Her warm and outgoing personality complements her teaching style in a way that allows her students to laugh along with her.
Merris’ classroom culture is very interactive. Songs and chants fill the room and bring learning to life, learning in a way different from most. She also encourages her students to move and be active to keep refreshed during the day. With all the fun that goes on in the classroom, Merris holds high expectations for her students. She outlines the expectations clearly so each child knows what to do to succeed in her classroom.
Outside of the classroom, Merris serves on the Provo City School District Literacy Committee and remains loyal to her alma mater, Brigham Young University.
