Centennial Students Rock and Keep Rockin’ On!

After months of rehearsals, Centennial Middle School showed Provo how much they rock!

This year’s musical Camp Rock begins with Mitchie (a young teenage girl) who desperately wants to spend her summer at rock camp. However, her only chances of attending include her working in the kitchen. The plot thickens as Mitchie is taken out of her comfort zone, hides her hidden kitchen identity, and finds love.

Based off the 2008 Disney Channel movie, the network released another sequel to the show. Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. With a bit of artistic licensing, Centennial combined the two movie plots and created a sensational show.

Under the direction of Melissa Brown, along with Kristin Soerensen, Sam Speer and Emily Ensign, students at Centennial were able to experience the world of singing, dancing, and theatre.

“I liked being a part of Camp Rock because I got to spend time with my friends after school,” said a student. She continued, “Singing and dancing with them was a lot of fun.”

To provide opportunities for more students to participate, the decision was made to have two casts! Rehearsals were held everyday after school, switching off days between the casts consisting of 100 students.

For the two weeks leading up to opening night, rehearsals lasted until about 5:30 p.m. Talk about hard work!

While Brown and Speer worked closely with the cast, Soerensen and her group of 30 student stage managers helped with sound, lights, and sets.

These Camp Rockers look forward to more opportunities to perform and work behind the scenes. Just like the movie, they rock and will keep rockin’ on!
