Canyon Crest Elementary School has been named the Mission.io League 2025 Champions, rising to the top of a global competition that included over 400 schools and nearly 10,000 students. Leading the charge was Ms. Madison Frei’s third grade class, whose focus, teamwork, and critical thinking helped them secure the top spot in a challenge that left them with less than a 1% chance of winning.
The students trained and competed from Canyon Crest’s unique Space Lab, a specially designed room that immerses students in a starship-style learning experience inspired by the bridge of the Enterprise. Throughout the competition, the students navigated through complex challenges involving science, technology, engineering, and math, often working together to problem-solve in high-pressure mission scenarios.
Mission.io, a global educational platform, brings gamified learning to classrooms around the world, offering students a chance to apply academic concepts in dynamic, interactive formats. Ms. Frei’s class consistently stood out for their ability to communicate effectively, adapt quickly to unexpected mission twists, and stay engaged through each round of competition.
Their victory earned them a trophy, a pizza party, and a special live chat with “R.A.L.F.” (Robot Assistant to Life Forms), one of the most popular characters from the Mission.io universe. The opportunity to interact with a favorite character was a meaningful reward for students who had worked hard throughout the year.
Lisa Hansen, the Canyon Crest Instructional Assistant who runs the Space Lab, shared that these students have shown exceptional performance in every aspect of the program. “They’ve really grown in their ability to communicate and work as a team. Each new storyline challenges them to think critically and collaborate, and they continue to rise to the occasion. It’s a privilege to watch them succeed.”
Canyon Crest’s win not only highlights the school’s commitment to innovative education, but also showcases the power of hands-on, story-driven learning to inspire young minds.
