During the August 13, 2024, Study Session Board Meeting, the school board received a comprehensive report on the ongoing construction developments at Timpview High, Shoreline Middle, and Wasatch Elementary.
Watch the PCSD Study Session Board Meeting for a more comprehensive review of the construction projects in our district.
The following is an overview of the updates provided.
Even though Shoreline Middle School has opened, construction updates continue as we finalize the remaining details. All code-required installations are complete, and landscaping concluded this previous week. Bus striping has been completed, and bike racks are now installed. Feel free to buckle on your helmet and cruise on over to Shoreline!
While most rooms are fully equipped, the sewing room is still awaiting the arrival of its sewing machines.
In the commons area, our painters stained the learning stairway, and we are now awaiting the arrival of school-customized graphic window decals for the commons window walls. The gymnasium floor has been cured and will soon be ready for student use, with ongoing work on the audiovisual components for the overhead screens. The auditorium floor was painted, and a partition wall was installed in the dance room, though we are still waiting on mirrors.
There will be 2-4 months of small-scale construction work, and the school will enter a year-long warranty period to address any issues that arise during the first year.
Significant progress has been made at Timpview High School. Construction installed the press box. The northeast arena ramp remains under construction and will be closed during our first football game of the season. The concession building will be open, but we encountered a delay with window delivery. Our construction teams will offer a temporary solution for our concession workers, installing the window at a later date.
The southern parking lot is available for guests attending the upcoming football game. Additionally, the Fire Marshal has approved the installed solar lighting for the exterior perimeter of the fields. Between the end of September or early October, construction teams will move the trailer from the newly paved lot north of the tennis courts, creating 80 additional parking stalls for staff use.
Landscaping was completed on the northwest corner of the school, near the bus loop.
The dance and cardio rooms in the North Gym have received new skylights, and masonry work is progressing rapidly. The construction teams have not yet begun the physical remodeling of the cafeteria because the design team is still working on its plans. According to comments made during the Board Meeting, this has caused a slight delay in certain construction elements, primarily affecting the next phase of the project. However, the North Gym is still on track to open on February 19th.
At Wasatch Elementary School, all masonry work is scheduled to conclude this week, and playground equipment has been installed, with rubberized flooring chosen over wood chips. Roofing work will be finalized next week, and irrigation is complete. We are now focusing on adding topsoil, sod, asphalt, and landscaping, which should be finished before winter. The front wall entry will soon be enclosed with curtain wall glass, and the backside of the kindergarten brickwork is ready.
The first-floor painting and wall tiling concluded last week, and flooring, mechanical, electrical finish work, plumbing, cabinetry, and kitchen equipment are expected to begin installation in the following weeks, with first-floor flooring installation scheduled for September.
On the second floor, drywall is taped and mudded, and mechanical construction in the kindergarten is complete. The fire inspection passed the Fire Marshal’s review.
Residents have expressed concerns about the sidewalks near Oak Cliff. Although the sidewalks have been built under city management and direction to ensure student safety, the board is considering additional measures to increase safety.
