Congratulations to all the students and teachers involved in ARTcetra, a student-run art gallery located in the Provo Towne Center Mall. Earlier this summer, ARTcetra was awarded the Sorenson Legacy Award for Excellence in Arts Education under the category “exemplary arts program in a school or district”.
The Sorenson Legacy Awards recognizes excellence in arts education in Utah’s public schools. The Sorenson Legacy Award website states that “the study of drama, dance, music, and the visual arts helps students explore realities, relationships, and ideas that cannot be expressed simply in words or numbers. Study of the arts provides a venue for creativity to flourish”.
ARTcetra was formed in 2017 when the Provo Towne Center Mall approached James Rees, art teacher at Provo High School, to extend an invitation to create a permanent display for his students’ art work. Since then, this art gallery rotates through 5 to 6 exhibits each year and even hosts lectures from guest artists. The gallery has received numerous recognition and has become a great place for students to proudly display their work.
Congratulations to all those associated with ARTcetra for this prestigious award and the continuous hard work that goes in to making this gallery a successful place.
