DECA teams from Provo and Timpview High School participated in a Regional DECA/FBLA invitational competition at Herriman High School on October 3, 2017. Thirty-three high schools from all over Utah attended the event and over 700 students competed. These teams practice their best marketing, business and entrepreneurship strategies in order to be prepared for the state competition held on February 22 and 23, 2018. DECA’s purpose, as quoted from the Utah DECA website, is to “build and develop high school students to become leaders in civic and business opportunities.”
Danielle Corbett, who placed in the top three at the invitational and is DECA president at Provo High, says, “I think the biggest benefit of DECA is watching students become passionate about people. They learn how to be a good leader, carry on intelligent conversation and problem solve.”
Danielle went on to mention how dedicated DECA members are at Provo High. She mentioned a new member of DECA this year who uses his lunch hour to study and talk with students outside of his regular social circle. Danielle adds, “I think it’s the career preparation that makes DECA… so meaningful!”
Provo City School District is proud of its students who are striving to become better citizens through the DECA program.
