“To know Mrs. Karns is to have the best advocate, teacher, and supporter in your corner,” shared Timpview Instructional Assistant Cecilee Karns.
The warm praise describes Timpview High School Special Education Teacher Heather Karns, who was recently honored with the Provo Way Award. This recognition from the Provo City School District and Board of Education celebrates exceptional individuals who foster positive, inclusive environments where students and colleagues feel supported.
“Heather’s work within the Mathematics Department includes co-teaching multiple Secondary Math 2 courses, running math support classes, and managing a large IEP caseload. Yet her dedication extends beyond the classroom. “She’s the first to volunteer when someone needs help and the last to leave at the end of the day,” Cecilee explained. “Most of what she does goes unnoticed because she’s not seeking praise—she just does it because she cares.”
Heather’s ability to balance planning, teaching, and mentoring makes her a trusted figure for both current and former students. “She helps students succeed academically, but more than that, she helps them feel seen and safe,” Cecilee said. “She’s a teacher, a mentor, a mom, and a community member who actively instills hope.”
Congratulations, Heather, on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for your incredible contributions to Timpview High School and our many families across Provo.
