“It’s a really unique fifth-grade class with a lot of different perspectives, and she’s just the perfect fit for them. That’s why I nominated her,” said Canyon Crest Elementary’s Physical Education Teacher, Forrest Hassell; he nominated Canyon Crest Teacher Madison Frei for the Provo Way Award.
The Provo City School District and Board of Education awarded five Provo Way awards last month. The Provo Way Award is an opportunity for the district to celebrate the positive things students, teachers, administrators, parents, and staff do for the community.
This week, we congratulate Frei for receiving the Provo Way Award. One of the most significant challenges in teaching is balancing the needs of the many against the needs of the individual; every student is different by cultural background, lived experiences, temperaments, aptitudes, ethics, and more, each unique down to the freckle—and yet, teachers like Frei care for and keep each student on track. It’s a skill that bleeds into student perception; you know when you are cared for. Her student’s enthusiasm for her class spilled into their PE class, catching the attention of her nominator. To quote Hassell’s nomination:
“I’m the PE teacher, and every time her students entered, they’d come in and brag to me about how awesome she was. Her students love her—for her.”
Thank you, Madison, for caring for our students, and congratulations on the award.
