As any teacher will tell you, the first few years of teaching can feel rocky—you’re charting the uncharted, building units and class cultures, setting classroom management standards in stone, and experiencing the expectations that students have for teachers—and yet, newer teachers like Rock Canyon Elementary’s Tegan Bracha somehow do this and more for our students. We and those around her are beyond grateful for her and her example, which is why she received the Provo Way Award.
The Provo Way Award is an opportunity for the district to celebrate the positive things students, teachers, administrators, parents, and staff do for the community. Her classroom left an impact in the mind of Rock Canyon Behavior Specialist and Nominator Joshua Smith. As a behavior specialist, Josh is keenly aware of what habits and practices create healthy and lifelong behaviors and knows the degree of care our teachers deliver to nurture students. He recounts his time in Bracha’s classroom, commenting on her high degree of care and classroom management skills:
“A few of us spent time in your classroom working with some of your kids. Seeing the interaction between you and your students, especially as a newer teacher at Rock Canyon, you clearly have compassion and care for each student. She takes opportunities to create one-on-one teacher-student relationships. And just the structure I’ve seen in your classroom—I’m really impressed with it. So, I nominated you to hopefully, like we are today, recognize you for all of your hard work and for the asset you are to Rock Canyon Elementary.”
Thank you, Tegan, and congratulations.
