The Provo City School District Board considers students as an important voice among its stakeholders. For this reason, the school board has chosen two students, Max Joyner from Provo High and William Weidner from Timpview, to join them as non-voting board members next school year. They will officially begin their terms of service on July 1.
Maxwell Joyner is currently a Junior at Provo High School. During his time at Provo High, Max has participated in track and field, basketball, pickleball, drama, welding, weight lifting and the Provo High French Club.
Max believes that Provo City School District offers some of the best education in the state and that it is a great honor and privilege to represent the students attending PCSD schools. Max wants to serve as a way to represent his school and to be a voice for others while listening to their needs.
Max stated that, “…It would be an amazing opportunity for me to represent the school and my peers, who I see and sit next to in class every day. I would be a good fit for this position because I love to listen and help people.”
One of Max’s references states that, “He has a pulse on what is happening in the school due to his strong relationships with teachers, staff and students, which has contributed to Max’s awareness of the needs of various individuals and stakeholders in the school community. …Max has connected with administrators, students, and teachers on a level that is equal parts personal and professional, and I have great confidence in the work he will achieve and the relationships he will form as he continues forward.”
William Weidner is currently a Junior at Timpview High School. While at Timpview, William has been involved in the Provo Youth City Council, Model United Nations, mock trial, speech and debate, winning numerous awards and recognitions in each of those activities.
William is extremely passionate about serving on the school board because he is driven to make a difference, especially in areas that will support students in Provo City School District. In his application packet, William stated, “I am deeply committed to serving my community and ensuring that we make progress together. …I am ready to passionately and tirelessly work towards a brighter future for our district’s students. As the Student Officer on the Board, I will seek to recognize the importance of students as a stakeholder with an important voice, and I will embrace the complexity that multiple stakeholders with differing goals inevitably brings to important issues facing the school board.”
Speaking about William, one of his references said, “I have no doubt William will be one of your most passionate school board members. He loves learning, participating, making changes happen that will improve lives.”
