Brandon Dorathy is a versatile educator who has worked in various positions, including Itinerant Teacher, Inclusion Specialist, Special Education Coordinator, Team Lead, and Co-Teacher– you name it, he’s done it. He’s a swiss-army-knife of asset-based instructional methods, an asset to his school, and one of the nicest, most humble human beings you will ever meet.
For these many qualities and more, we proudly present Brandon Dorathy with the Provo Way Award.
Initially, Brandon worked as an American Sign Language interpreter, primarily assisting students with hearing impairments. However, he later discovered opportunities to help students better. He became an Itinerant Teacher, Inclusion Specialist, and Co-Teacher for students requiring intervention in various capacities, which led him to become a Co-Teacher at Provo High School.
Brandon enjoys collaborating with other teachers to develop unique and engaging ways to teach students, utilizing the school as his Professional Learning Community. His teaching approach focalizes building connections with his students; he wants them to leave his class feeling loved. He believes that establishing these connections is crucial to effective learning.
According to Lorien Francis, his Provo High School co-teacher,
“Brandon is an amazing co-teacher. Brandon primarily teaches special education students, but he helps everyone.
“He moves around the classroom all day long. Brandon’s always on his feet. He attends games. He takes tickets. He’s at lunch duty. He’s all over the place. He’s a fantastic teacher, and it’s a pleasure to work with him.”
Thank you again, Brandon, for serving our students and community, and congratulations.
