Congress created the P-EBT (Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer) program as a federal food assistance program in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is open through the Department of Workforce Services to students enrolled in the National School Lunch Program, including those attending public, charter, and private schools. The P-EBT program provides a one-time payment of $120 in food/SNAP benefits for each eligible enrolled student. With the deadline approaching, families that still need to apply and be approved for free or reduced-price school lunches must apply by May 1, 2023, to qualify for the Summer P-EBT program.

To reiterate, students must enroll in a school participating in the National School Lunch Program before May 1, 2023. Students must also be approved for free or reduced-price meals for the 2022-2023 school year to qualify for the Summer P-EBT program. The one-time payment is made at the end of July 2023. This program assists families in purchasing food for their children during the summer months when school is out of session.

Families with questions about their child’s free and reduced status for the 2022-23 school year are encouraged to contact the Child Nutrition Office at 801-374-4866.

Please note that the Department of Workforce Services manages the P-EBT program. The Provo City School District provides students with free and reduced information to the Department of Workforce Services. The district does not handle P-EBT information, SNAP benefits, or P-EBT cards or funds.
