On Monday, February 27th, the State Legislature recognized three teachers from Provo City School District for achieving National Board Certification.
Christy Giblon of Dixon Middle School was awarded for Music. Emalie McKee from Rock Canyon was awarded as a Middle Childhood Generalist. And Cameron Whatcott, from Timpview High School, was awarded for CTE in Engineering, Design, and Fabrication.
Qualifying for a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification is an intensive, comprehensive process. The certification process requires a computerized test measuring subject and pedagogical knowledge, a portfolio of student work and an explanation of how it illustrates the teacher’s capabilities, an in-classroom video and written analysis to demonstrate student interaction skills, and an Effective and Reflective Practitioner component.
Becoming certified can last up to five years and must be renewed every five years after certification. Nine teachers in the state of Utah passed this year. This batch of teachers went through a challenging time as they worked on their certification during the school years most affected by the coronavirus.
With this latest batch of inductees, our district now boasts six Board Certified teachers, including two from our elementary schools, one from our middle schools, and three from our high schools.
Congratulations, Christy Giblon, Emalie McKee, and Cameron Whatcott, for your incredible teaching and diligent work.
