Students at Westridge Elementary are falling in love with math, and getting excited to learn. The Westridge Elementary math program is utilizing a new online learning system called Prodigy.
Prodigy couples learning with play. Imagine your favorite childhood video game and combine that with the required curriculum, for a fun, wonderful way to learn. Students answer math questions to earn points; these points allow them to battle, purchase items and create their own virtual world. Teachers can create assignments and quizzes that are in line with the progress of the class and then can check to development of the student’s skills. This allows for the students to have a very personalized experience, and the teachers to work one-on-one with each student. Teachers are able to see if they are struggling, confused or way ahead of the curve.
Walking in the halls of Westridge Elementary, you would be able to hear the cheers of students who “get to do math today.” What a wonderful way to help students enjoy learning and create an environment of excitement.
