With college acceptances rolling in and the excitement of graduation looming on the horizon, it's...
Between September 24 and October 1, Provo City School District conducted a survey of community members, parents, employees and students to learn which priorities are the most important when building the school year calendars. The information gathered will be very useful when constructing the 2021-2022 school year calendar options.
Now that the survey has been closed, PCSD would like to share the results with all those who may be interested. Once again, the results of this survey will be factored in greatly when constructing options for the 2021-2022 school year calendar.
In total, the survey gathered 2,238 responses. Respondents were asked to look at seven statements and rank them in order of importance. These options were:
1. Calendar aligns with neighboring districts (Nebo and Alpine)
2. Calendar aligns with local universities
3. Full 2-week (+/-) Christmas Break
4. Full one-week Spring Break
5. Full 3-day Fall Break
6. School year begins between August 20 and August 23
7. School year ends before Memorial Day.
There are two different rankings that are provided by the survey: Weighted Ranking and Top 3 Votes. For weighted ranking, weights are provided in reverse. For example, in our survey a #1 rank has a weight of 7, #2 has a weight of 6 and so on. For Top 3 votes, the number of times an option was the first, second or third choice is added together. Both results are provided here and will be instrumental in creating calendar options.
1. Full 2 week (+/-) Christmas Break – 7.59
2. Full one week Spring Break – 6.84
3. School year ends before Memorial Day – 6.34
4. Full 3-day Fall Break – 6.29
5. School year begins between August 20 and August 23 – 5.49
6. Calendar aligns with neighboring districts (Nebo and Alpine) – 4.73
7. Calendar aligns with local universities – 4.71
1. Full 2 week (+/-) Christmas Break – 1,754 votes
2. Full one week Spring Break – 1,428 votes
3. Full 3-day Fall Break 1,042 votes
4. School year ends before Memorial Day – 990 votes
5. School year begins between August 20 and August 23 – 610 votes
6. Calendar aligns with local universities – 470 votes
7. Calendar aligns with neighboring districts (Nebo and Alpine) – 420 votes
Based on these results, 2 calendar options were developed for the 2021-22 school year. To vote and view the proposed calendars, visit the survey page. The survey will remain open until Sunday, December 8 at midnight.
