In 2008-2009, Provo City School District adopted the Treasures reading program from the Macmillan-Mcgraw Hill publishing company. Treasures is a Reading/Language Arts Program with rich, engaging fiction and nonfiction literature and provides students with accessible text.
It develops reading skills, oral language, vocabulary and writing to build a strong foundation and a love of reading. It includes strategies designed to reach every student at every level. It promotes mastery of phonological awareness, oral language, comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and writing. It also provides multiple opportunities for test preparation and practice.
Treasures, is currently being used in Kindergarten, and Third to Sixth grade. First and Second grades acquired the core-created basal program, Wonders. The district is currently considering a similar core-created program for the 2016-2017 school year.
