Dear Provo City Residents,

It is hard to believe another school year has come to a close! I hope all of you enjoy the warm weather, the beautiful outdoors, and time with families and friends. I am grateful that I get to serve the students and families in Provo, with the goal of creating educational opportunities for all. I want to share with you some of the great work happening across our district. First, when I became Superintendent in 2023, Provo City School District was identified as a district in “improvement” for our lack of progress and achievement, particularly in math in Kindergarten through third grade. I am pleased to announce that with the focused efforts of our teachers, principals, support staff, and district departments, we have achieved our state’s Early Learning Plan goals, and we are no longer in this improvement status. We know we still have a lot of work to do, but this accomplishment demonstrates that we can achieve high educational outcomes with the right focus and energy.

While we have a lot of work to do, I want to celebrate and highlight a few of our high achievers. Our first grade team at Westridge Elementary and our sixth grade team at Timpanogos Elementary have been identified by the State Board and our BYU Partnership as two of the highest performing teams in the state. These educators established a culture of trust and collaboration, worked with data and adjusted instruction as needed, and set individual goals with each student. Another high performing highlight is at Provost Elementary, where their relentless focus on student outcomes from Kindergarten through third grade allowed them to meet all of their Early Learning Plan goals set by the state for both reading and math. Other schools in our own district, as well as schools outside of our district, are looking to these successes as models to replicate.

Attention to our multilingual learners led to more students making adequate progress in their English language development at Provo High and Shoreline Middle, while Timpview High saw the highest numbers of students reaching proficiency in their English language acquisition. Furthermore, with intentional efforts from counselors, teachers, and administrators, Timpview saw a 30% increase in the numbers of students taking advanced/college level coursework (i.e. Advanced Placement and Concurrent Enrollment) and Career and Technical Education pathways leading to certifications in specific industries.

All of this success can be attributed to our dedicated educators and their willingness to intentionally track student progress and reflect on their teaching practice. Spring Creek Elementary and Timpanogos Elementary are some of the most highly impacted schools in the state, yet they outperform their counterparts in Salt Lake, Alpine, Nebo, and Ogden school districts. Each school in our district has tremendous strengths, and these just represent a few of the ways in which Provo is prioritizing its academic achievement goals as part of our strategic plan. Provo City School District is becoming a “Destination District.” We could not do this great work without our entire community behind us. We thank you, Provo, for demanding a high quality educational system for all, and we are passionate about our work as we improve and bring excellence to our educational system.

School Registration Support Nights

Are you new to Provo? Get registration assistance at a District Sponsored School Registration Support Night!

We’re excited to announce that Provo City School District is offering evening hours for school registration this summer! These extended hours are designed to make the registration process as convenient as possible for busy families. Parents and legal guardians are invited to register all their children in one location, during one visit.

You will need to bring the following:

  • Proof of Student’s Age
  • Immunization Records
  • Proof of Address

Elementary Literacy

Our elementary schools are making strong strides in early literacy growth:

  • Provost 1st grade students increased the percentage of proficiency by 18%
  • Westridge 1st grade students increased the percentage of proficiency by 23%

Secondary Multilingual Learners

Doubled the percentage of students who met proficiency on the Language Acquisition Assessment.

Our younger students showed strong growth in math proficiency from the beginning to the end of the year:

  • Kindergarten saw a 14% increase
  • 1st grade saw a 12% increase
  • 2nd grade saw a 7% increase
  • 3rd grade saw a 12% increase

Competitive Teacher Salaries

With August’s tentative budget approval, we will have successfully raised beginning teacher salaries above $60,000.

Letter from Board President Jennifer Partridge

Dear Provo City Residents,

The Provo City School District Board of Education has been hard at work this last school year, and we are not slowing down moving into the new year! I am proud to work with and represent board members who are focused on supporting our students, teachers, and schools.

Last September we formally adopted a new strategic plan to guide the work of our district. I have loved seeing all of the efforts happening this past year to really put the plan into action: emphasis on data and supporting individual students during weekly teacher PLC meetings, instructional coaches in every school, and creating our Parent Advisory Committee and Community Connections Committee.

This past year the board began a Boundary & Feasibility study. We want to be good stewards of our resources and assess whether any adjustments could be made to increase efficiencies while meeting student needs. We are studying building utilization and capacity. We are also reviewing CAS (elementary gifted program) and Dual Language Immersion to see how much they cost, if we’re getting the desired results, and other possible ways of meeting student needs. We are not looking to cut programs or change boundaries, but it is possible after we’ve studied everything that some things may change. We are still many months away from making any decisions, and we will first involve our Community Connections Committee to provide feedback once we have enough information.

Our wonderful, hard-working, caring educators and employees are the heart of our district and our most important asset. They make a difference in our students’ lives every single day. This year we are continuing our efforts to increase salaries to be in better alignment with our neighboring districts. We need $4 million in order to do this, but we have looked for efficiencies and ways we can decrease the impact to our taxpayers, and therefore we are only increasing our revenue by $2 million. Most residents will see a very small tax impact. We appreciate the support we have received from the Community Connections Committee and other community members as well. The Board will be voting on this and our 2025–26 budget at our August 12 meeting.

I’m grateful to work with an engaged, dedicated Board. We are striving to be thoughtful and intentional about our decisions. We appreciate your feedback. Feel free to give public comment at our meetings or email us at boardofeducation@provo.edu.
