In accordance with Utah State Code 53-22-105, the Provo City School District Board of Education and Superintendent are tasked with creating policy and procedures to address the issue of ensuring that each school in the District is a safe and secure environment wherein students and District employees can learn and work together.
The state has mandated that each school have a School Guardian on premises during school operational hours for the purpose of protecting staff and students in their disposition of learning and work, in such cases that an imminent threat or action of violence occurs on school grounds.
The state mandates that each School Guardian is trained and cleared for their responsibility to carry a concealed weapon on school grounds in the disposition of protecting students and staff in case of imminent threats or actions of violence towards students and/or staff during the school day.
The Board of Education directs the Superintendent and Director of Student Services to establish procedures for creating and maintaining the school guardian program across Provo City School District, ensuring that each school meets the requirements of state law.
