STEM Inclusion Initiative

What is the STEM Inclusion Initiative?

Student raising their hand with a robot on the table. At Provo City School District, we believe that all students deserve to participate in STEM education. The PCSD STEM Inclusion Initiative invites participating schools to increase student engagement with STEM through dedicated time in the master schedule, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to participate, regardless of academic standing, EL status, SPED status, and other factors that can sometimes limit student access. The purpose of the STEM Inclusion Initiative is to provide consistent, positive STEM experiences for all students to increase opportunities and future engagement in STEM education.

The initiative helps to gradually move participating schools to a stronger focus on STEM through a one-hour-per-week rotation model. Each STEM Friday focuses on a different STEM skill set, with all schools engaging students in coding, robotics, and engineering design. Each school chooses additional skill sets including science deep dives, educational technology projects, and arts integration.

Each participating school received a class set of five different robotics platforms and participates in ongoing professional learning throughout the year. They also have access to our district STEM Inclusion lessons.

The following schools are currently participating in the STEM Inclusion Initiative:

  • Canyon Crest Elementary (Year 1)
  • Provost Elementary (Year 2)
  • Spring Creek Elementary (Year 1)
  • Westridge Elementary (Year 2)
