Policy 4420 P2 Course Grade Replacement & Credit Recovery Courses
Course Grade Replacement
4420 P2 State rule provides students the opportunity to improve and replace grades on a transcript without penalty or acknowledgement of prior performance. Students that repeat a course or complete a comparable course with a higher grade may have the prior course and grade excluded from their transcript.
Students who have earned a grade of D- or better in a course may repeat a course to improve the grade but may not earn additional credit toward graduation by repeating the course. Students who repeat the course and earn a passing grade forfeit the credit previously earned. Students who repeat the course and then earn an F do retain credit and higher grade from the previous attempt.
Process for Grade Replacement
- Students may repeat courses to address learning gaps or deficiencies and to assure a proficient level of readiness for future learning.
- If a higher grade is earned during the repeat of the course (or a semester of a yearlong course), then the original grade and course are removed from the student’s transcript. If the same grade or a lower grade is earned, the original grade will remain and the repeated course will not be added to the transcript.
- Students may enroll in comparable courses that fulfill the same graduation credit requirements as a course for which the student seeks to improve the grade. A comparable course is defined as a course of the same length, covering the same course content.
- Only comparable courses may be used for the purpose of course grade replacement. Credit recovery courses are not comparable courses and may not be used for the purpose of grade improvement or replacement. The table below identifies course offerings that may be used for grade replacement.
- If a higher grade is earned in the comparable course (or a semester of a yearlong course), then the original grade and course are removed from the student’s transcript. If the same grade or a lower grade is earned, the original grade will remain and the repeated course will not be added to the transcript.
学分恢复课程
Students in grades 9 to 12 will be evaluated as often as necessary to determine their progress toward graduation. If a high school student does not pass a core class required for graduation, the student will be placed in a credit recovery course. Credit recovery courses are designed to enable students to master the core content standards.
Credit recovery courses may be provided at each of the district’s high schools during the regular school day, after school, or summer school. An approved online program will also be provided. The online credit recovery classes may be structured to enable students to earn 1/4th of credit by successfully completing the class.
Credit recovery courses shall be graded on a Pass/Fail basis. Credit recovery coursework shall not be used for grade replacement. Fees may be charged for online credit recovery classes according to the current fee schedule adopted by the Board of Education.
