Policy 4310 P1 Honorary Diplomas for Veterans and Others
概述
Veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War may receive an honorary diploma from Provo City School District or one of the District’s high schools. Because veterans of more recent conflicts were required to have a high school diploma in order to enter the military, they are not addressed in Utah legislation.
The Provo City Board of Education may also choose, on a case-by-case basis, to award an honorary diploma to other citizens of Provo City who did not graduate from District high schools.
申請流程
Individuals, their family members, or representatives who are interested in receiving an honorary diploma shall submit an Honorary Diploma Nomination Form 由 March 1st of a school year to the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning.
Nomination Requirements for Veterans
The nomination form for veterans requires:
- A brief biographical sketch of the nominee, including their education, service, career, accomplishments, and awards.
- A brief summary listing how the nominee has met the requirements specified by Utah Code.
- Verification from the Department of Veterans and Military Affairs certifying that the nominee:
- Served in the armed forces of the United States during World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War.
- Was honorably discharged or was released from active duty due to a service-related disability.
Diploma Awarding Process
Honorary diplomas will be awarded as part of the yearly graduation ceremonies for District high schools.
Honorary Diplomas for Non-Veterans
On a case-by-case basis, the Provo City Board of Education may award an honorary diploma to other citizens of Provo City who did not graduate from district high schools. The Board will determine the criteria for that decision, but may consider the following:
- An individual who has made a notable contribution of time, talents, or resources to an individual high school or the community.
- An individual who inspires and encourages current and past Provo City students.
- A community member who achieves state or national prominence.
- A member of the Provo City business, civic, health, education, or philanthropic community who has made a significant contribution to the local community.
